Publisher. Always independent.
Longer ‘about us’ copy:
Canongate is an independent publisher based in Edinburgh and London, publishing an eclectic mix of fiction and non-fiction.
Some of our most successful and notable books have included Yann Martel’s Life of Pi (the best-selling Booker winner of all time), Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father and The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki (winner of the Women’s Prize).
For more than fifty years we’ve been committed to fiercely independent, high quality and innovative publishing. We’ve won both Independent Publisher of the Year and (twice) Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards. We’ve published Nobel laureates and celebrities, political prisoners and activists. And in recent years we’ve grown, with the acquisition of genre imprint Severn House.
We believe books can create joy, excite curiosity, foster empathy and change lives, so we amplify voices that need to be heard, share stories that deserve to last and, in everything we do, strive to be fair, brave and socially responsible.
